DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR Mission Statement The mission of Camp Lakeview is to provide a Christian experience of growth, inspiration, and recreation for people of all ages through a year-round outdoor ministry. Position Description The Development Director will provide leadership in the planning, coordination, and implementation of all aspects of Camp Lakeview’s comprehensive development program. Required Qualifications 1. A belief in Jesus Christ, and a belief that the ministry of Camp Lakeview is an effective tool of the Holy Spirit to spread the wonderful news of forgiveness and salvation through Christ. 2. Be effective and skilled in verbal and written communication. 3. Be well-organized, self-motivated, and goal oriented. 4. Possess the social skills necessary to make a positive first impression with new acquaintances. 5. Possess the ability to speak openly before groups, as well as the ability to talk frankly and honestly with potential givers on an individual basis. 6. Be able to coordinate a team of volunteers. 7. Possess the ability and desire to solicit financial contributions, item donations, sponsorships, grants, and advertisements for the overall benefit of Camp Lakeview’s ministry. Desired Qualifications 1. Member in good standing of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. 2. Experience with fundraising, resource development, marketing, and event planning. 3. General knowledge of investments and the various methods of planned giving. 4. Be well-connected with the philanthropic Lutherans who live in Camp Lakeview’s geographic area of influence. To Whom Responsible The Executive Director Primary Duties and Responsibilities 1. With the Executive Director develop a comprehensive annual development plan and budget, addressing visions and goals for each of the following areas, (but not limited to): · Annual Operating Fund · Dinner Auction and other events · Planned Giving · Capital Campaign · Proposals for Foundational Grants 2. Implement the development plan through direct action and the coordination of other staff and volunteers. 3. Attend educational seminars or conferences to be better equipped in all areas of development. 4. Perform other tasks as may be required as a team member in the ministry of Camp Lakeview. Proposed Initial Goals 1. The annual fund will receive gifts totaling at least $200,000 during the next giving year. This includes all donations, matching funds, and proceeds from the dinner auction and other events. 2. The membership in the camp’s association shall increase by 25% in the next giving year. 3. By the end of 2009, deferred (planned) gifts to the camp of the Camp Lakeview Foundation will exceed one million dollars. 4. Through gifts and pledges received through the capital campaign, the camp will be able to fully fund the construction of a new camping facility, at a projected cost of three million dollars.
CURRENT DEVELOPMENT
ACTIVITIES Annual Operating Fund 1. Write, edit, and send at least two annual general fund solicitations directed at our entire mailing list. 2. Write renewal letters on a monthly basis to those whose membership is scheduled to expire. 3. Conduct phone solicitations for member retention, to recover past member, or to involve new people in a giving relationship with camp. 4. Be responsible for donor recognition, including writing letters of thanks and gift acknowledgement, updating the member display in the dining hall and donor book in the lobby, and other creative methods to thank and recognize our supporters. 5. Ask Thrivent Chapters to provide financial and volunteer support for future projects and events, and serve as the contact person for Thrivent community service teams, completing all necessary forms and documentation to receive chapter funds. 6. Fully promote and utilize Thrivent’s GivingPlus program to maximize the matching funds received by camp which were generated through the gifts of Thrivent members. Dinner Auction 7. With the assistance of the volunteer Auction Chairperson and the input of the Executive Director, recruit the leadership committee, oral auction coordinators, congregational coordinators, silent-auction booth assistants, runners, and other volunteers. 8. Train and equip congregational coordinators to publicize the event within their congregations, sell tickets, and hold gift gathering events. 9. Solicit gift donations, sponsorships, and advertisements from local individuals and businesses. 10. Assist the Administrative Assistant in the receiving of gifts, thanking donors, writing catalog descriptions, and preparing the auction catalog. 11. Coordinate all aspects of the evening, including menu, room arrangements, table seating, welcome materials, registration process, check-out process, and schedule of events. Planned Giving 12. Educate the camp’s constituents about the various methods and advantages of planned charitable giving through methods such as informational dinners, fund-raising newsletters, direct mail, and/or e-mail contacts. 13. Identify a pool of potential planned givers from those who have consistently and significantly supported camp over the years, those who expressed an interest in considering a planned gift to the camp, and other sources. 14. With the help of the other camp leadership, coordinate and conduct initial personal visits with each of those identified as potential planned givers. 15. For those who express a genuine interest in making a gift, incorporate outside professional help to confirm or adapt the recommended giving method and to help complete the gift. Foundation Grant Proposals 16. Identify community and corporate foundations whose objectives are aligned with the mission and future projects of Camp Lakeview. 17. Research, write, and submit grant proposals to those foundations so identified. Capital Campaign 18. Assist the Executive Director and Campaign Consultant in the planning and implementation of all aspects of the upcoming capital fund drive to obtain the necessary funding to construct a new, independent camping facility. |
