Welcome to Camp Lakeview!

Summer Camp Registration Flurry

The registration rush has slowed to a trickle!  As of April 24th, there are still openings for boys in Session 11 (August 3-8) and the Hoosier Bike Trek.  There are also openings for girls in Session 1 (June 1-6), Village Camp E (June 29-July 4), Session 7 (June 29-July 4) and Village Camp J (August 3-8).  All in all, we have 1,898 registered now, and still have spots for about 30 more.

Summer Staff Needs

Although the summer staff was all set at one time, the Lord had a different plan, and a number of people have had to back out of their commitment.  So we are currently searching for a Female Counselor, Male Counselor, First-Aid Coordinator, and an Assistant Maintenance Person.  If you or someone you know might be interested, please contact Tim Stair at 812-342-4815.

First Village Camp Opens in 2008

As many of you know, Camp Lakeview is planning to build another camping facility just south of the camp entrance to meet the overwhelming demand to send kids to camp here.  This new camp will have its own lake, dining hall, activity areas, and housing units.  The housing units will be arranged in small, themed “villages”, each holding 20 campers and four staff.

Although the new camp probably will not be operational until the year 2010 at the earliest, the need is now!  So to help give more children a Christian camping experience, Camp Lakeview will be building one of the villages on main camp for 2008!  This village would then be relocated to the new site once that camp is operational.

The “village” program will have activities that are somewhat different than those of the regular campers.  In the village, campers will do a lot more outdoor cooking, will have more small-group devotions and evening activities, and will participate in a mountain bike excursion and a river canoe trip.  Because these activities are geared more toward older campers, the village experience will not be offered to those younger than 5th grade.

Although the exact design of the village structures is yet to be determined, one possibility is shown on the left.  The structure shown would house six people, and it would take four of these cabins to make up the village.  But it is still possible that the design could be somewhat different or we may build two larger structures instead.

In order to promote a more intimate community, the village will be located near the shelterhouse, far away from the regular camper cabins.  Placing the village there allows the shelterhouse to provide space for gathering, meal preparation, and restrooms.

This new village will give 200 more children the opportunity to come to spend a week at camp.  And it will give parents a lot more flexibility regarding when their child can come.
